Should you forgo the services of an Attorney and seek out the services of a Legal Document Assistant we would be honored to prepare your legal documents, but only at your specific direction. Some of your best legal and self-help books can be confusing and overwhelming; therefore you will find that we can provide invaluable assistance with routine legal tasks such as research, typing and filing various legal documents. Our knowledge and experience can also help you avoid the pitfalls that can delay your matters or result in a rejection of a filing. History of the Legal Document Assistant

Pro se legal representation means advocating on one's own behalf before a court, rather than being represented by a lawyer. This status is sometimes referred to as in propria persona. (Definition provided by Wikipedia).

Those who choose to represent themselves either before a court or in a non-litigated matter may find a need for assistance with preparing legal documents. For many years the public's only option was an Attorney; however on January 1, 2000 a new California law known as SB1418 authorized non-lawyers to prepare legal documents for people doing their own legal tasks. Legal Document Assistants, once referred to as Independent Paralegals, was established by SB1418 and is codified in the California Business and Professions Code. A Legal Document Assistant may: 

  • Distribute to their customers legal materials that have been published or approved by an Attorney
  • Prepare the customers' legal documents under the direction of their customers
  • File the customers' legal documents in the appropriate courts
  • To qualify as a Legal Document Assistant a person must:
  • Register in the county in which his or her principal place of business is located and in any other county in which he or she performs acts for which registration is required
  • Post a $25,000 bond
  • Establish that he/she has a minimum level of experience and/or education
